How much does a tour ticket cost?
A standard ticket costs 17 euro/person (75 ron/person). Discounts and special prices may apply for larger groups, children or private tours.
Can I pay in other currencies?
We accept payments in euro or the equivalent in RON (Romanian lei), US dollars or British Pounds at the official exchange rate of the Romanian National Bank.
Do you offer the tour in other languages, as well?
Currently, we offer the tour in English, French, Italian and Romanian.
When does the tour take place?
We can offer the tour every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, but we kindly ask you to double-check the availability of the tour on the day you are interested in. Tours on a different weekday could be arranged for larger groups, upon request.
Do you offer hotel pickup?
For small groups (up to 4 people), we can arrange hotel pickup within Bucharest.
What landmarks does the tour include?
We will stop at the Orthodox Cathedral (former Senate building), the House of Science and Technology, the Uranus neighborhood, the Parliament’s Palace, Antim Monastery, Mihai Voda Monastery, Revolution Square, as well as several places used for criminal investigation and torture by the former secret police. We will not visit any of the landmarks on the inside, although you can quickly peek inside the two monasteries for a few minutes.
If I purchase a tour ticket, are there any extra costs involved?
The tour includes an optional short stop at a bar on the way, where you can buy a drink or snack. Most of the landmarks we will visit are still in use by the state administration, so visiting them is prohibited. Furthermore, the Parliament’s Palace can be visited separately, with a guide, but this is not included in this tour. (we can provide details on how to purchase tickets or you can check their website directly).
Does the tour include a lunch break?
The tour includes an optional short break at a bar on the way, where you can buy a drink or snack. The tour will end in a central area, close to several restaurants, where you can rest for lunch. We may occasionally offer snacks on the house during the tour.
I don’t trust EventBrite. Can I pay you cash?
We prefer payments via EventBrite, which accepts a variety of credit and debit cards, as well as PayPal. If you prefer to pay cash, please confirm your participation via email or phone prior to the tour (contact details here).
Who will be the tour guide? How do I know if he/she is good?
Your tour guide is a Political Science graduate, with a genuine passion for Bucharest’s history and the Communist past. He speaks fluent English (and has studied and worked in this language for more than 15 years), and has lived in Bucharest for almost 18 years.
